I don't know. That SKF one was put in, in Jan or Feb. and according to what I found should have good quality, but somehow there is something wrong on the RH side again. I have still the original one but can't get the parts to change it. Have ordered a new RH one from Island now and hope that'll be it, which is about 200.

Morning @andyfreelandy ,
New GKN RH DS is in for about 1.5 weeks now. The odd noise is gone. Due to winter tires it's a bit louder though. Gearing has improved again, isn't as rough as when other one went, but as the other one is not GKN I am wondering if that has an effect on the gearing still. Got the wiring loom changed at the same time, which seems to have improved as well. Sorry for the late reply.

The make of drive shaft won't effect the gearing, just how smoothly the drive is transferred to the wheels.
Non-GKN shafts tend to bind under load, causing the whole power unit to shake.

  • Morning @Nodge68, all I can say is that the gearing got so bad when the noises from the driveshaft appeared that I preferred to get it picked up to get it changed and it improved afterwards again. My thoughts on that were, that if the driveshaft doesn't get the proper rpm's to the road in accordance to what the engine provides and expects back in terms of the electronics that this seems to cause an imbalance and the Jatco or whatever it is doesn't know what to do with it as in gearing up and down badly. I recognised that first time, when the car was running really smooth after getting the MAF changed some years ago.
  • What you said about the let's call them non-OEM driveshafts I think that left one needs to get out as well as when driving up to around 600 m yesterday it gave back some bad noise (clonking) just what you described and the whole power unit shook and was kind of jumping..
