After loosing the plastic part of my undertray on a Greenlane and my sister put the sump out on her car on the track up to our house I thought it time to beef up the undertray, I used the original frame and riveted 3 mm sheet aluminium (should really have been thicker but its what was lying around) hers some pics to hopefully give inspiration to anyone else considering a similar thing. Apologies for the quality of the pictures my phone was all I had.

Don't try using 10mm plate (like I did), it doesn't cdo the handling or ground clearance any good...

:rolly:

10mm! Hell beast of a sump guard, what did it do the the handling?

I had some knocking about at work and a bit of spare time :D

Handling wise, you can feel the front end is sitting low, it massively understeers, and bottoms the springs out under moderate braking...

It only stayed on for about 40 miles...

I was thinking about drilling it but it'd be a waste of good ali so i'm waiting to get hold of some 4 - 5 mm cheap/free before the winter. ;)

Have you got any other protection on the freelander then?

Nope, not at present apart from some S/S cill guard/step efferts (which are surprisingly strong.
I haven't had the time or money to do owt off road to warrant putting any extra protection on it but it does need a sump guard on because the oil pressure/temp (?) sensor is pretty exposed. I've got a custom S/S eggsauce lined up with smaller silencers and more tucked away when I can scrape £250 together and I'm looking at putting some protection on the fuel tank. ;)
Most of the off road stuff I do is on farm tracks and oss fields for work so its not generally very challenging.

Yes I need one, due to limited funds, going to get some steel/alloy plate from local dealer and make one myself.

I have some chequer plate lying around which may be wide enough, definitely long enough, just bend it with the ribs inside, otherwise it'll grip on the ground.

You got your old Mantec guard available Dunc?
