ok guys before you shout about landies been cold (i know but i am getting old and want to keep her indoors happy ish)
series 2a, what sort of heating upgrade is available? what has anyone else done to improve in theirs.
i have looked at those heaters that plug into cig lighter but that dont cut it for me.
any help or advice appreciated:D

This is the route i went. It is a little pricey but my heater core was shot and the motor slow and weak. So since it replaces the whole jimmyjam it's not too pricey. With this additional plenum it attaches right to the tube for the drivers side windshield defroster. Pretty slick and so far into this mild winter it will chase me out of the truck on high. . .

Did your 2A have same set up as 3?
I went this route warm as toast but I am currently going to build my own fan to improve distribution even further. Have a LDV van fan but case will not fit so going to build new case to suit. Will post progress once started.

i like this idea, for some reason i thought doing this would need some complicated plumbing, i never considered it was as simple as that

Not sure if you can use my idea on a S2...I have a S3...I modified the air inlet at the heater box to accept a 4" ducting pipe that runs from the front rad panel...so in effect the heater gets its incoming air via the ram air effect once in motion,

I dont even need the blower motor running once on the move....warm as toast...but I am keen to make sure that the thermostat is working as efficiently as poss to ensure as quick and FULL a warm up as possible,

I can post picture for anybody that's interested.

Nick.

Did you put that together yourself?

did the box need any mods or was there room for a second rad in there? I've really got my eye out for another one now.

Looks like a simple mod to do.

The heater matrix box is spot welded I drilled out the spot welds around the case and welded in a strip to make way for second Matrix , then extended side cover to match.Easier to see in this pic.

In my old series three I fitted a defender heater box that I had lying around when my one siezed. I also modified it so instead of going into the dash/plenum I covered the outlet with a plate and with an extra pair of grommets and some hose bought off the internet, I ran the hose straight to the demisters.

I am planning on doing the same to my defender when I get a chance, it makes the blow stronger and a bit warmer

Ok here is what I have done with my S3, not sure if you could modifie the idea with the S2 or not,

made the Y section from flat sheet metal...rolled by hand with the inlet just tacked on with mig and a little body filler to block up the bigger holes,

It works a treat...warm as toast...most of the time I dont need the boost blower on which on a S3 you have to 100% of the time as there is no ram air effect like I have.

I'm impressed by all these solutions. Wondering how good my defender will be when I get it on the road. On my IIA years ago I had the Smiths heater (inside) which was not too good so I fitted heated front screens (aftermarket).

yeah there are some good ideas there, i have the smiths heater fitted inside too.
i will have to look and see if i can take some points from each of the ideas but at the moment its hats gloves and thermals.
thnks all

you will need the blower going 100% of the time...and it may be muggy and not clear the screen very well,

I would have thought my idea with the extended intake tube would be simpler.
