Series 3 Heater control valve makers

I assume that the fan is cast aluminium or another non-ferrous metal. Is that correct?

In that case it may be stuck onto the shaft through dissimilar metal corrosion and may be difficult to remove. Be careful heating it as some of these types of alloys can melt easily.

Heating it gently and using a three legged gear puller may work, but take care how much force you apply to it.
 
Its covered in rust (thin 1970's steel?) and I think it has a brass middle, which is connected to the motor spindle. I have removed the allen key screw ok (which is in the brass section). Now thinking of just placing it upside down and in the acid bath - see if that might lodge it. It would be a shame to chuck an original part! WD40 has not touched it even after 4 days - hence if it is a case of applying some heat - or possible chemical treatment - the acid. I will provide an update if I am successful. I don't ever remember it being used, but with it having been so wet this year, I have used it to demist.

Clean the spindle with fine emery or similar, you want the brass bit to stay in the drum ... cos it's fiddly as feck to replace it ...

Once it's off, you can soak the metal bits in vinegar for a couple of days to de-rust, then check them over and prime and re-paint ...

Brake cleaner for the motor brushes etc.
 
brake pad cleaner - clever. That will probably reduce any oily residue. Currently, its covered in WD40. Thanks for the helpful advice. Thanks
 
Well, the emery worked a treat. The rust on the spindle was preventing the brass centre from moving. Removing the rust, followed with WD40 got it off. Its all nicely apart and in the acid bath, waiting for a repaint next week now. Thanks for your help. Considering the motor is 40 years old, there appears to be very little wear at all.

Great news, it's many years since we has our old Series, but she was fun and one day i'll turf out the pics of the rebuild ...
