Hi there

My dad has a freelander and he noticed for the first time he had heated wing mirrors but was asking me is the drivers side the only heated one as his passenger one doesn't heat. Now I'm no expert but I know they both should heat and was wondering what could be wrong with it? it works perfectly every other way the glass tilting and folding in too so not sure why its not heating? Any ideas?? :)

Could be a number of things, the connectors could have fallen off or maybe not have been connected at all if the glass has been replaced. Also if the glass has been replaced it might not be the correct heated glass and just a plain piece. You could pop it open and stick a multi meter across the connections and see if there is any voltage to it.

i think the heated mirrors only come on when you use the heated rear window

probarbly gonna get a barage of abuse for sayin this:doh:, but i thought this was the case aswell

dont get me wrong i havnt looked at the circuit diagram yet, but every other car ive owned has been switched this way,(probarbly stoopid to think lr would be the same:doh:), but also a few weeks back i started the car on a very cold morning and left it running for 5/10mins before i got in it,when i did get in it, i put on the heated back window, and within a few minutes there was steam coming off me mirrors and you could see them start to clear:D

so peeps are you 100% sure they is wired permently:confused:, because that really does sound a bit dumbass, if they are!!

Yes definitely wired so that the mirrors heat all the time the engine is running. My MGF & TF have the same system and in the case of the MGF - they still work well after 11 years use!

Umm - how? Any tips at all? I'm sure I'm going to break the glass if I pull and lift any harder.

Use some rag around the edges and be gently but firm if that makes any sense.
My drivers side packed up a couple of years ago and turned out to be the connections on the back..
If its really cold outside, very gently warm the glass with a hairdryer, it'll make it less brittle..hope this helps.

they are controled by a thermostat if it is not cold enough they will not work, also another reason for one not working is it has gone caput!

hi shove the bottom of the mirror in and the top will be out get you finger behind it at the top and just pull it will come of easy this way hope this helps

Thanks for that. Just needed to be a bit braver I think.

Seems like the heating element on the OS mirror is kaput as the electrical connections were fine.

Okay I know I am reviving an old thread but...

my mirrors don't fold and pretty damn sure they don't heat up either!

How should I approach a repair here?!

how old is your car if it is a early one the definitely did not fold and even a few years later they put some on that could be folded but Manuel take the tweeter cover off and look if the wires are there
