Hi, I have a small annoying problem with my rear window heater if anyone can suggest a fix.
When demisting, only the bottom and the top clears leaving an unclear band through the center of the window which will only clear when I am well into my journey and the car interior has heated up. Has anyone else come across this issue and is there a fix?
Many thanks
Sara

This suggests that heating element is faulty; all but the top and bottom parts have gone open circuit.

You have a number of options:

  1. Try to repair the broken parts of the element with a special paint loaded with silver designed for the job.
  2. Replace the faulty element completely with an aftermarket stick-on unit. You'll probaly find it easier to leave the old one in place and just stick the replacement over the top of it and pick up the power wiring.
  3. Replace the entire rear window.
  4. Replace the complete rear tailgate door.
  5. Live with it.

Seems you may have a open circuit in a branch of the element that crosses the glass, so you'll have to look very carefully at the element which will be its normal brown colour until you come to the break in the element where it will be black due to current arching a cross the break.
You may need a magnifying glass as it can be just a fine scratch but that's enough.
This is where the special paint comes in just a dot will bridge the to parts of the break, use the stuff back in my RR days and it works, just follow the instructions on cleaning the damaged area.
