Hi all! Something occurred to me this morning - when reading up on RRC's I remember reading that the Vogue SE (91 on) has heated door locks - is this true, and how does that work? I assume they need to be permanently heated to stop them freezing up - is that correct? Just intrigued!

the mirrors and washer jets heating comes on with the front/rear screen demist at temps below 10c but dont see how that would help if you cant get into the car to put them on :p

go put it all on and let us know if they get warm!

OK, had a look in the handbook and what do you know! I had assumed it was automated somehow so no instructions but, and I quote:

Heated door locks (where applicable)
The front door locks incorporate electrically-operated heaters for use in freezing conditions. Each heater can be activated by pulling out the door release handle and retaining it in that position for a short time to allow warming and the consequent freeing of this lock.

Could be useful to know this winter!! ;)

What a clever idea! I'm amazed more vehicles don't have that fitted. We can have freezing conditions for days, if not weeks, at a time up here in Aberdeen.

Amazing considering the car is 20 years old!! It also has a dimming rear view mirror to stop dazzling headlights from following cars - although that's broken. :)

I've got remote central locking - I assumed it was factory fitted? I have found that it needs adjusting as when its really cold the key fob will unlock the doors but there is not quite enough oomph to keep the locks lifted so they drop again. Key works fine though. Just another little niggle to fix in due course.
Working autodim rear view mirror is quite cool though.

Mean't to ask, is there an options list on the car somewhere? My 944 has a sticker in the boot and the log book has it too. Anything on the rangies?

Yeah..my green RR has heated locks (driverside isnt great, but passenger side seems to work much better). Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it) I've never had the door cards off to have a proper look to see whats going on. heated locks, front and rear screen, heated seats all work....except the most useful thing...memory seat adjustment! I've never got around to fixing that (but read enough about it), so the wife drives it around at the mo with a cushion behind her!

One thing that's amiss and I'm really suprised about, which is quite common on mercs of a similar age, is heated door mirrors. Probably sounds daft, but scraping the ice of those almost always knocks them out of adjustment, so you end up twiddling the joystick to try get them back to the best angle again. (or maybe they should be heated and mine arent working??)

I have to admit though. I still think heating the key with a fag lighter still works better with the locks, and then sticking your hand out the window to adjust the mirror still works best!

Heated mirrors work off the rear window defrost don't they?
My drivers works but not the passenger. May be a broken wire hopefully. Are the heating elements attached to the glass or part of the mirror housing?

Oh, right, so I should have heated mirrors in my classic then?...maybe they just dont work then??

yes you should have heated mirrors, they do come on with the heated screen as the washer jets do with temps below 10c

the elements are part of the glass.

I tried to get the glass off the mirror once, one on a smashed one which was easy :D

But on the replacement I wanted to swap the housing over but couldnt see how to get the glass out without the risk of breaking it

AFAIK mine's got heated front and rear screens, mirrors, washer jets, door locks - but not seats!

I think the mirrors come on with the rear window and the washers jets come on with the front screen - I think! Could be wrong, of course...!

So far I can confirm the front and rear screens work, I think the door locks too but no idea on washer jets or mirrors as yet.

Mines got heated washerjets but never had a heated front screen.
