Hi i have a problem with my headlights, they are not working!

The side lights come on but not the mains. When i put on the full beams only the one on the right hand side comes on :(

Im not sure where to start really. Im not very lecky!

Any pointers about how to go about resolving this?

Thanks,
Stu.

Do you mean you have no dip beam and only one main beam? Check the fuses and then replace the bulb on the side with no lights at all. I suspect a bulb has gone, taking out the dip fuse and both filaments in one of the bulbs. (if your headlamps don't have separate bulbs for main and dip) If the fuses are OK and all the filaments are intact then it's a wiring problem.

Fuses are all fine, tooks earths off cleaned em up but still no difference. now the full beam that was working aint.

Ok so, I took of the connectors (covered in verdigris) and gave them a wiggle. Now both full beams work but only the left hand low beam. The headlamps are the sealed type. However, on the one that the low beam is not working there is a scorch mark inside the light so i think that the low beam has blown. I have included pics of both sides.

As this is a sealed unit i take it i will have to buy the whole headlamp?

Cheers.

Replace the whole unit - they're not that expensive. Especially when you compare them to some of the more exotic headlamp bulbs out there. Or bite the bullet and replace them with halogen units.

.....actually, I've just seen how much some people are charging for these. The last time I bought one it was less than a fiver. Try your local motor factors or any mail order landy parts place. Six and a half quid looks about right.
