This is a bit of a nerd question. I have a Disco 2 facelift. I drive a lot on country roads at night. I cant fit spotlights because the cops wont allow it (just like I cant fit side steps..if it isnt factory fitted you cant have it). I want to get around this by putting 100 watt halogen bulbs in. I have been told that because the facelift headlights have plastic covers they will melt if you fit non standard bulbs. Has anybody any knowledge of this. I dont want to have to buy a new set of lights if my idea dont work.

I assume you're not in the UK then?

100w bulbs do kick off a lot more heat but the difference between good quality bulbs of 60w and 100w in normal headlights is not going to be that noticeable. I do a lot of rallying and have tried all options.

If you're really not allowed even the LR option spots, why not replace the front fogs with rectangular drive pattern lamps? In the UK they would be too low for that use although the 'young things' seem to get away with having them on all the time!

Maybe HiD could be the answer but again, check your local traffic laws. here I'm sure you're only supposed to have them if you can auto adjust the lights and have headlight washers.

Or slow down........but that's no fun!

Can you not wire your headlight switching so that when you're on main beam your dimmed headlights are on as well.
I used to do this when I was younger and car head lights weren't as good as they are now.

hi .
if its a d2 and a face lift model does it have air suspension and headlight wash??
if so. shurley you can fit hid on dip, have done this on mine and the effect is brilliant ..........no good on main due to the 2-3 sec delay in the bulbs warming up.
