I have just had the wonderful experience of having the headlamp units stolen from my Discovery 2 (facelift).:mad2: Clearly a professional job, the units were removed with no damage to any bodywork and without the need for access from the rear of the units. I am told by my parts supplier that this is certainly not an unusual crime and consequently they always keep at least a couple of units in stock.
Has anyone else on the forum experienced this and does anyone have any tips for making the theft of the units more difficult for the pond life that is going around lifting them. They are expensive (c. £300) to replace and I would be grateful for any advice. I don't want it to happen again.

Not knowing how these are being removed and if you do it wouldn't be a good idea to post it on a public forum, but Is it not possible to attach HD cable ties to back of the units and then onto the something secure? Only a thought.

Thats how I stop my 300 tdi lights falling out!!!

Wrap around bull bar helps - although if they are determined, doesn't matter what you do, they will get them.....all you can do is make it a harder job so hopefully they leave it alone and move on to something else.....

Get the car number etched onto the lights at least you will recognised them when they come up on Ebay.

this is a common thing! i fitted the face lift lights into mine, i got them new thou, as had heard that they are selling stolen ones on Ebay
when i removed the old square lights and made ready for new one, they dont really fix in with much at all, so i drilled through the front panel and into a locating threaded part on the rear top of the light, if some body was gonna take mine i guess they will knacker them in the process, but hopefully take all the car and don't bring it back!

i know it sounds extreme
but years ago a friend had at least 4 chrome front grills stolen off his granada same tecneque as headlights just pull hard , his solution glue razor blades on edge poining inwards , they only tried once more and the red drips on bumper prover it worked
