Believe it or not i removed the rear step from the Disco 2 and left it out for the scrapman. It had rotted away where the strut fits.
When looking for an alternative i did not realise how expensive they are. I ran outside and rescued the step.
Anyway today i have managed to repair it.
What i need is the screw on end off the strut that fits on the rod end. This has disappeared with the rotten bit.
Perhaps someone has replaced a faulty strut and still have the old one knocking about?
Thanks in advance.

I take it you're looking for the top bolt, the one on the plate which fits to the chassis.
As you can see from the diagram, both of the bolts which fasten the ends of the gas strut are permanently fixed in their locations so it looks like you're going to have to fashion your own method of securing the strut.
Yeah, the rear step assembly ain't cheap at 200 plus quid.

I doubt that you'll get hold of one of those bottom screw on eyes, but the gas strut is available from a number of suppliers, part number KVL100040 prices range from 16 to 60 quid depending on supplier and quality.

The part number for the boot or gaiter is KVM100000 and it's held in place with an ordinary cable tie.

Many thanks for your help. Didnt want to spend on a strut if i could help it as mine is ok. She who must be obeyed says i cannot spend anymore on it yet hence trying to get just the screw on end.

Sorry couldn't quite understand what part you was talking about, is it one of the numbers listed on that diagram, or maybe circle it :p

A guy I worked with had a bit of 5mm plate with two holes in it, bolted at the top and he has drilled the stud on the step to accept an R clip, just move the bar to upright position and slide it over the stud and push the clip in, ok it's manual, but it works.
