Handbrake cable replacement - HOW?

I have RAVE and can see what's needed, but HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE REAR PROPSHAFT? It says undo the 8 nuts AND BOLTS but a quick look at mine suggests they are nuts on studs? I can see that without removing the studs, the propshaft won't drop.
DO I NEED A TOOL TO REMOVE THE STUDS?
 
if you didnt know, a propshaft compresses.... its just like a big damper

so when you remove the nuts, you push it to one end and then you have enough space to remove the prop on one side, then slide off the other side...

yes, you might need a propshaft tool to remove the nuts easily.. altough a spanner the right size will do the job, just takes more time.

rotate the propshaft so you can get more room to access the nuts.
 
rear prop nuts are 9/16 or 14mm will just fit hand brake end nuts on studs diff end nuts and bolts or if 300 tdi diff end will have rubber doughnut which you need to remove 3 x 19 mm headed nuts and bolts leaving doughnut on diff and prising prop off then undo prop nuts at handrake

Just one more small thought ...

When you explore the telescoping sections of the propshaft, do not take the thing and pull it apart into two pieces. Keep the shaft in one piece.

Clean it and grease it well while it is off.

The alignment of the two halves is quite important, and if it is wrong you may get very nasty vibrations up your bum.

Thanks for that...no I didn't know it compresses - it didn't say in RAVE and I only had a quick peak underneath (hate lying in the snow:)) and at first glance it didn't look like it was two pieces so assumed it was basically rigid...cheers for the advice; should be easy now

It has to be able to get shorter when the back axle goes UP, and longer when the back axle goes down.

There are all sorts of lengths of propshafts for Landies, and it is VERY important the right ones are used.

Total destruction of a transfer box is possible if a prop shaft is fitted that can't become short enough when the axle comes up, back or front.
