Bought a Halfords 'professional' breaker bar a month ago and it snapped yesterday. Only used the bloody thing about 5 times. Personally I think there is a cast problem because as I understand it the pin is supposed to break before the bar, but the pin is in tact.

The problem I have got is that I lost the reciept. Assuming they tell me what I can do with my broken breaker bar do I have any come back ? Oh and I paid cash, not card

i think they will give you another if it was from the professional range, ive had mine years and no problems

You don't need a receipt for the pro range, I broke a socket I had had for years and just took it to a store and they just gave me a new one no questions.

They should exchange it no problem. If not tell em what date and about what time. They can verify the sale. If they wont then threaten trading standards :)

Unless you go to the Merry Hill Store where they have put up a "Proffesional Tools will no longer be swapped without a reciept" sign.

has a similair problem with Halrauds over pro ratchets, no reciept as given as a xmas present, both failed first time of using them, answer from them was no reciept no exchange

Most of my tools are britool, some snap-on mostley specialist automotive stuff. Just bought a set of stud extractors and wobbly head ratchet spanners from snap-on only cos they were on special.

I buy virtually all my stuff when it's on special. Bought myself another 24" breaker bar plus ratcheting adapter on special a couple of weeks back.:)

On special is the only way to buy from snap-on Ratty as you obviously know, the racthet spanners were nearly half price and got another £20 off cos i bought the stud extractors at the same time :D, the special price is realy the price they should be to start with though, but it is handy that they come to you.

I tell my snap-on dealer to let me know when summit I want is coming up on special.:)

I'm trying to duplicate my truck tool kit for my landy. I'm fed up with switching it back and forth. I'm still waiting for the 24 piece spanner set to come back up again. Mind you I might have to wait a while til I've paid a bit off my new diagnostic.

how is it fair, wen it is sposed to be a lifetime warranty and it ses on the tool "halfords"! ok there is a chance you wernt the original purchaser of the tool, but its unlikely really. they are just usin it as a way of gettin out . bloody shops HOPE u lose the receipt!

go in and buy another identical one, on your card, and keep the receipt. give it a week and go to a different branch with the broken one, the card and the receipt.

act really arsey, make out you were out on a job when it broke, and had to buy another one locally from a motor factor or similar, B&Q or whatever.

you're right ****ed off and would like a refund as the tool is not fit for purpose, and you don't want it replaced as you've already bought another.

(they have to be identical, with no serial numbers though)

They can't argue it's not their fault so they have to give you a new one. I use one my grandad got when he worked at the pit. It must be 20 or 30 years old and i've swung from it and put a 6ft pipe over it to remove seized bolt. I guess they don't make tools like they used to.
