gwent 4x4 amongst other names

I am sure there was a thread a while back saying they dumped some wrong axles on a a guys driveway and refused to refund or pick up or something.

I might be mixed up though.

My personal experience -- contacted Mr. Edward Fear, proprietor of Gwent/NoFear through eBay about two front and a rear safari door for my 110. He called me, said he had 3 doors in good nick, had been repaired at bottoms and were in primer, ready to bolt on.

Like a fool, I did the deal outside eBay. Took two weeks for doors to arrive. I knew the doors were used and repaired, so I didn't expect perfect. The "Repairs" turned out to be ****e, bits of tin BRAZED over the rusty steel still in place, slathered with bondo and sprayed with undercoating to hide the problems. Primer is sprayed right over original paint, no sanding, scuffing, nothing. I can peel it with my thumbnail.

After cleaning up the rear door to assess the condition, it ended up in the scrap pile and I bought a new replacement. The front doors are being used because I really need them now and cannot currently afford to replace them.

Edward Fear refused to respond to emails, and when I phoned he hung up. Some day when I have time I'll visit him. He won't enjoy it.

Avoid at all costs or it will cost you..........
Also masquerade as no fear 4x4 (joke??) and tynwald66 on e-bay. Check out other threads for yourself on the net but even better report them to trading standards and the various land rover mags who carry their adverts!

Just sent this off to some magazines - perhaps others might like to do something similar?

"Some of you may have heard from me before re this but one of my innocent customers has just been stuffed in a right royal fashion by Gwent 4x4 (aka No Fear 4x4, Tymwald66, 4x4 Breakers etc) and I feel it is really time for someone to stand up and be counted. I am not naïve enough to think that they are the only dodgy dealers in 4x4 spares but they are continuing to get away with it time and time again. Try ordering something from them to see if they know a TD5 from a Series 2A and look at what they offer on ebay under tynwald66 at present – rolling chassis with V5 for £1000????

See links below amongst others if you do not believe me:

LAND ROVER 90 DEFENDER ROLLING CHASSIS OTHERS IN STOCK on eBay (end time 07-Jan-11 20:35:52 GMT)

So, come on chaps, all those who fancy themselves as investigative journalists stand up and be counted, pick up your pens and paper, mount your glistening white chargers and head for Chepstow!

Alternatively persuade your magazine advertising departments to stop taking adverts from these felons if nothing else as it erodes your editorial integrity as many innocents believe what they read both in the articles and the adverts……"

I happen to work in chepstow and quite often go past. They are indeed the dodgy of dodgyest people. My mate also went there for something and they were amazed at the fact he could tell the difference between an lt77 and an r380 just from selcting the gears. Now come on thats an easy one! They dont know their arse from their elbow. The doors are always firmly shut and rarely let anyone in. Everytime i have been there there are perfectly roadworthy land rovers parked outside with no plates on with nothing wrong with them at all. Gotta be hot or what.
Another mate actually worked for them for a short while and someone rang up and ordered a 300tdi engine. they said they had one £500 all in. he went for it and 2 weeks later it arrived on a pallet at his house. It was a 2 1/4 petrol!
So for anyone even thinking of even ringing them to ask, dont bother it will most probably be a waste of money, just like the chap who i met outside their unit who was picking up a 110 station wagon tub after buying it on ebay. was described as immaculate and complete and it was far from it. gouge marks from grinders all over it. they are nothing but butchers.
The sooner they go out of business the better as far as I'm concerned.
Rant, done!

i had 200tdi engine of him and paid 600 quid and it looking like maybe a crap un :( not sure what to do as dont really think will get money back now! his dad hangs round down there and ive bin told a few people have slung eddy about!!

If you bought it on a credit, rather than debit, card and it is genuinely not a good'un report the problem to the vendor first then copy all correspondence to the credit card providers. Otherwise try trading standards, the police, small claims courts etc and don't let them get away with it.........

Just got a bulkhead from them and 2 axles....bulkhead is fine but delivery took a week longer than quoted. Axles are ****e...promised defender and sent out disco ones....has agreed to send out correct axles and collect disco ones.

I live in hope

Repent at leisure........suggest you inform them in writing and, if you paid by card, also inform the credit card company in writing of the problem now so you have a paper trail to follow IF they do not deliver. good luck!

oh and beware...thay are changing company name again to 4x4 salvage ltd....thinks thats wot it si gonna be...but if ya dont wanna lose money...go somewhere else

Please tell the magazines where they advertise, Ebay and the trading standards. They change identity more often than anyone else, can't imagine why.....!

Might be worth a tip off to the local coppers. If it don't look or feel right it often isn't.

With all the name changes I'm gonna be avoiding any business based in Chepstow. I'm sorry for any good businesses in the area that this could hurt but I cant afford to take the risk of getting stung.

The "businesses" to avoid are all on Bulwark Industrial Estate in Chepstow but they also have an address in Alyburton in Gloucestershire...........
Re tipping off the coppers that would be great if they are interested but I suspect that most of the salvage on view is actually kosher. It is what they do or don't do with the parts after they break the vehicles that is the problem mostly!

Below from Findabreaker.com - I make no further comment and am only passing on the thoughts of others!!!

"I have paid a very small deposit on a part that sounds ideal, for a good price..
I was going to get them to deliver, but after having read all this I will go and collect at the end of the month.... starting to wonder if there will be anyone there! I have Edward Fears home address, so I suppose the worst that can happen is I lose the deposit and the cost of the fuel to get there...
Also wondering if the part is from a less-than-honest source now...
