ISTR the idea behind such things is to route it out at a slant to the
rear and chop it off level to the underside to give a large elliptical
end, increases the suction. I've seen similar arrangements on various
racing cars of various ages.
You could just try lopping the end off a piece of drainpipe and
holding the cut end out of the window and seeing if you can feel any
air being drawn into it.
