OK........... In my experience all PS boxes I have had leak...... ;)

P.S. Mine doesn't groan but hisses on sustained full lock. But others I've had did groan.
I've read low PS fluid and air ingress can lead to this.
Mine must be air ingress. Still no reduction in PS fluid.

IME, some boxes are vocal in a variety of ways   , some, possibly most aren't :) . I'd agree that probably most of the noise is air ingress related, and, IMHO, is irrelevant. (E.g. mine is quite a vocal person - SWMBO's is silent  )

Don't hold the PAS at full lock  - it's not necessary, and it overloads the pump, which, whilst it has a bypass, is testing all your pipework at full pressure .... A bit of mechanical sympathy goes a long way with anything LR :p

Oh, and @Mackers - get you bleddy wheel bearing adjusted  - procedure is in RAVE - a front wheel bearing with too much play in is going to add more play into the high precision racing car super steering on a LR, and is to be avoided :D:D:D

You'll probably need a new tab washer - a few pennies each :)

Thanks. Good advice.

Hi
I have a 2015, 110, which had a slight leak on the pas box. so I thought before it gets worse and wrecks something else I will get it changed. This stopped the leak, but I have now joined the old groaners club. It started out just groaning a bit on LH turns, so I thought I would live with it, but the groan is getting louder, so took it back to the garage, they changed the box, again, but still groaning. It dosnt groan on the ramp, so its something linked to how hard the pas pump is working, but weird on how only when turning left. The garage was baffled and they want it for another 3 days to try and track it down. Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this?

If yer turn the wheel ter full lock and hit the bump where the wheel stops turning, unturn it slightly ter take the pressure oft the pas pump as others have said above. Yer pump will thank yer ferrit.

I just decided to live with it. It's only left hand down tight turn on mine.

yes, if it was when on full lock, I could understand its just the pas being overworked, BUT , mine started out doing it, just when you turn left and reversed up my drive.
This started about 2 months ago, straight after the new pas was fitted. I thought I can live with a little groan, just when I back up, but over the 2 months its got significantly worse. It is now quite a long and loud groan when backing up the drive, as the drive is uphill, I guess its adds more strain on the pas/steering system, and I now have a groan getting worse whenever I turn left going forwards. My groan happens as soon as you turn left and only left, even if you turn full right, then as soon as you turn left it groans.

The fluid in the pas reservoir will jump around when the steering is turned. If stationary with someone turning left and right, does the fluid jump around, the same fer both sides?

well, the local lanny specialist had it for 3 days and none the wiser, they tried a different pump/pipes, but still groaning away. although when I took it too them I could just feel it starting to happen on a right turn too. After they have been playing the groan is certainly less, so I got the "take it home and see if it gets worse" ie go away and live with it.

new pas what fitted

original one has a slight leak, (which I now wish I had stuck with), so it went in and had a recon pas fitted, about 2 months later it was leaking worse than the original. so back it went for another recon box, which has not leaked yet, but is when the groan arrived. they had it 3 days and tried another econ box, but that still groaned too - along with me.
