Hi All,

Just bought my first ever Landy the other day. It is a 110 CSW 300Tdi 1995 model.

I am trying to find out what is wrong with the steering. When the wheels are turned full lock or just about, to the right, it starts to make this horrible grinding noise, andI am unable to locate it. It is only to the right and does it going forwards and in reverse.

Is this a common problem that anyone knows about and what are the solutions

Thanks in advance
Rob

Nothing wrong with it, it's your 265/75/16 tyres grinding against the radius arm! 2 easy solutions - either don't use full lock or adjust your steering stops!

Afterthought...you will have 2 nice shiny patches on the radius arms just behind the back of the wheel!

How do yer know what size tyres he's got Oddie?
Are yer psychic or is he a mate?

If it aint the tyres, it could be the CV joint.

I was thinking exactly the same...... on both counts! :)

Spot on Oddie... They are 265/75/16's

Would fitting spacers help with the grinding and poor turning circle?

Ha!!! 50p you lot, cough up!!!

I wouldn't fit spacers, you don't really need to although they may stop it grinding there is also a possibility that they would increase wear on the bearings and make them wear a bit quicker - you are better off just adjusting the bump stops so you don't get the grinding (or just get used to turning the wheel back a bit when it starts to grind! - it can sometimes be useful to be able to restrict rotation on a wheel if yer really stuck in the mud!) and live with having to do a 5 point turn instead of 3.
