Me prop shaft has run dry. Got a grease gun, can i pack it with grease and expect it to be fine or will i need a new one? Also me gun has a solid brass pipe, bloody difficult to grease stuff in situ with it.:doh:Where can i get a felxi hose?Ta.

re. prop, will probably be ok but keep an eye on it. they wear very quickly when they are dry and can give up without warning.
Mine tried to kill me by siezing and shooting me off into a tree at 50mph!

Yeah i think it knackered me diff by snatching at it when it was dry and i was articulating off road.Dunno if topping it up will solve the problem.Only one way to find out.Dont look bent.......

Cheers for that link.. going to get myself one..

its one of the jobs I have to do is check the props... even if I don't feel any play on them, is it ok to pump some grease into it?
or can I "over grease"? and would it do any harm putting too much grease in?

mmh... and what type of grease do you guys put in? does it have to be something special and bought in tubes to go with the gun?
I have grease I use on wheel bearings and wheel shatfs on the bikes, but not sure if it would do the job on the props?

also.. is the adaptor universal or do I have to buy a special adaptor for the nipples?

cheers!

the adaptor will be standard. The grease is ep something low, but anything for a grease gun will do-lots of litium stuff at halfords 4 quid a tube. You cant over grease cos once its full you wont get any more in.Did read on here a debate about over greasing ujs once, someone said once the grease breaches the seal dirt can get in.But i dont belive it cos the dirt would have to force its way through the out going grease to get into the interals.

Got a grease gun today and some grease!!
So tomorrow will be checkin the props for play and all that....

but remembered something.. is there a way of checkin if it needs grease or not and how much should I fill or when do I know when to stop?

yu pump grease in until either....
you cant pump any more grease in
or
you see the grease coming out somewhere else.
it is known to push past the seals in UJ's.

some peeps say that will allow the ingress of dirt - but I have never had any problem.

Ok, brilliant stuff!

thanks for the quick replies...
tomorrow going to get under the old girl and do a few checks on brake hoses, swivels, props, etc...

Dont have any strange noises or leaks, but I always like to keep my vehicles under close inspection and in good condition
