So I'm having issues with my grease gun. (For some reason when I mentioned this to a friend he started smirking...). No matter how much I pump away, nothing comes out. (More smirking...).

Seriously, it had been working fine, but then stopped pumping. I thought it had an air lock so I did all the usual stuff to clear one. No joy. In the end I ended up taking all the tubing off, leaving just the open grease out port. Grease came out just fine. Put either the flex or rigid hoses on and nada. Hoses are clear - I cleaned them anyway just to check. I ended up taking the whole thing apart, stuffing some grease into the pump port by hand and cranking the handle. Without a hose attached the grease emerged where the hose would attached. YAY!!! With a hose attached the grease returned to what would be the grease chamber via the tiny return hole. Booooooo! I can only assume this is what's happening when its all put together. Why is this happening? It's like the pump can't generate enough pressure to send the grease up the pipe anymore. Is there anything I can check? Any suggestions or is the gun just fooked?

The gun is question is a Hika Pro-Craft:

Grease gun issues are the bane of my life, greasing up daily :(

1) is there any grease in the gun?

2) Is the sprung plunger going inside the cartridge?

If you are using grease cartridges then try to ensure the ones you use are not the narrow ones that the plunger can't get inside to push the grease out.

Try holding the plunger back and using a desert spoon, manually fill the chamber and see if it still won't pump.

The pipes shouldn’t cause too much restriction, it’s only when attached to the nipple (oi oi !) that the pressure builds up. Take it back and get a new one anyway, they don’t cost that much. I’ve got a couple of those Hilka ones from Screwfix and they’re good for the money.

+1 - I HATE grease guns - they are a complete PITA - a necessary evil .... but a new one is the way forward :)

+ another...……….
Fkn hate them bastid things I done a crane a few weeks ago & went through 3 guns no cartridges either
just a big drum of grease, messy cr@ppy job I lost the plot with on of the guns & fired it across the workshop

I have a air operated one at home though which is the bizz :D

I still got my gramps guns - lurvely brass things ;).
how the feck do yu get them on prop nipples tho?

Yeah, I've still got my father's Tecalamit grease gun. The grease gun is still working well, but my father? He passed 50 years ago.
I found that getting the grease gun end to fit on the nipples of the prop shaft U/J's was almost impossible, so I invested in some new grease nipples which were slightly longer than the original ones. No problems now.

anyone tried longer nipples?

Yes, but getting me grease gun near them is a whole other conversation ;)
