Another thing that is interesting me is some info on G90 tyres. That is what my defender came with and they seem ok, if a bit noisy afrom 35mph (can't hear them over 55 though, too noisy). Has anybody got any good/bad experiences with them please? I would like to get some unbiased opinions.

I have seen them used off road not bad at all very heavy disco digging its way through a local pay and play site id reckon at a guess 70% offroad 30% road my brother runs them on his disco when his BF's all terrains are not up to it.
MOD fit them - but they are shocking on wet tarmac after a few 1000 miles - going round corners at 3 miles an hour (or sideways if you need to go faster) does get tiresome eventually - very noisy on the road - OK off but nothing special

Ohh sean has returned.Have heard them g90 are good in sand.Dont look very agresive to me.Have also heard they are cock on side slopes.

I had a brand new set.
when they were "brand new", like within the first few hundred miles, they were excellent on side slope.
once they'd started to wear, they were utter crap.
michelin XZL/XCL's or BFG MT's are much better, and handle better on the road.

Being narrow rather than wide and aggresive, the G90's sink in snow or mud and find grip deeper down where as wider tyre tend to float on top and break traction because of the loose upper surface. But its horses for courses, they don't last that long on the road. That's why why I take them off and use BF Goodrich AT's during Summer. The noise on tarmac is at least better than the noise from the rest of the vehicle.TE-HE

Didn't notice the post date I must admit but when worn to the rims he won't have to worry about side slip. CHUCKLE LAUGH Yes time to renew!I agree. But seeing as the thread was posted in 2009, I suspect he has replaced the the tyres by now.

No pics but I was on the design team for County Tractors, the 4 wheel drive tractor people. Even on tickover these machines could outstrip any landrover. If you GOOGLE County Sea Horse it was driven from Dover to Cape Griz Nes in France. The electrics were stripped out and the tyres reversed to provide traction. The starter motor was replaced with a manual wind up starter motor with a powerful spring to turn the engine. These machines could drive into a bog and out without leaving tyre marks as the footprint was less than that of a human.
