With all the doom and gloom here on the forum about what goes wrong I would just like to let everyone know if you at all interested that my 70k TD4 sport made my monumental journey for meanyways around France and into Italy towing my 1.5t caravan in 30c+ heat! It did about 23mpg with the aircon on and its completely standard. Im very happy especially when a lot of the newer cars were braking down.

Its not all bad :D

I agree - too much doom and gloom on here sometimes.

Freelanders are great - we need more stories of folks who have done longish journeys with no problems and are happy with their vehicle.

Well done mate.

Good to hear it.

it is about time those tratter boys will have been learned a lesson now my newer freelander 2006 td4 auto hse is fantastic I can not find anything wrong and that LR 6 months warrenty is going to waste maybe I could transfer it to the tratter boys i shall have to change my picture for a new one but I think I will wait for the snow again

Why should you be so surprised , i did a similar trip thru France and Germany with a 1989 V8 Disco 3 door in 2004 pulling a Bailey senator tandem axle avg 19mpg and was confident from the outset .

fookinell, I'm well chuffed at this. Just done a 300 mile round trip pulling the caravan to site and back and managed 26mpg with a td4 auto, and I was a bit shall we say "enthusiastic" on the way home too !

Who said we were suprised :p
Joking aside I have to admit that i have been very surprised how good the TD4 auto Freelander is , having just bought one for my sister who insisted against my advice , that she wanted one . being in the "gaylander" camp of the "real Landrover" fraternity , just going on the percieved wisdom , and having been a series and defender user(plus a fair selection of others at the same time) all my motoring life . A bit like the shaver guy I was so impressed i got one to use myself , and so far its not dissapointed especially in the mpg area

I went to Aberdeen and back today (About 45 mile round trip) and used newly fitted cruise control most of the way )! and mine has only ever had one fault (Fuel pump failure) and is a great vehicle. P.S No idea about fuel consumption but got 33.5 mpg average to last tank, using 200ml of 2 stroke oil to a full tank, very little or no smoke, I find it smoother too.

Thanks guys gotta say towing the caravan was really easy the car was steady as a rock, i wasnt hanging about either! This is my third freelander and this one is the best ive had. If towing i would recommend putting spring assisters on the back it makes the ride quite hard but certainly helps minimise snaking :)
