Freelander Prep for towing a Caravan

They absolute best way to load, is to fold down the rear seats if you don't need them, and put heavy stuff in the car, ahead of the rear axle of the car. Heavy car, lighter caravan. However, heavy stuff right over a caravan / trailer axle has very little impact on trailer stability as well.

I once lost a car trailer due to not enough nose weight. I made sure that it was something I understood because it's not an experience that I ever want to repeat.
Agree entirely. Too much nose weight may wear the tyres a bit, or knacker the rear springs, too little can cause a serious accident.
I used to tow live cattle and full loads of silage bales on my twin axle Ifors, so long as I kept plenty of weight on the towball, they drove lovely.

The nearest I ever came to a serious accident while towing was with a little single axle trailer loaded with some corrugated roofing sheets.
There were only about a dozen sheets, and some of them stuck out the back of the trailer.
Probably neutral on the noseweight, or lifting it ever so slightly.
As I only had to go a few miles on local roads, all 30 limit, I thought I would be fine, but I was wrong.
On quite a gentle bend, and accelerating, the trailer was suddenly beside the Ninety, and pulling the rear wheels sideways across the tarmac.

I survived, but have never driven with low nose weight again.
