I will try my best to describe my problem, my P38 glovebox lid drops straight down when opened, the little ram is not attached to the lid and I cant see how it works, it almost looks like its pointing the wrong way and there is no way to attach, Im a mechanic so am not incompitent but I just cant picture how it fits, can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Think the ram closes the lid. found this on youtube. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6Zb6vo5OP0]Range Rover P38 Glove Box - YouTube[/ame]

So there's a spring on it!!!! mine has always just dropped and you have to push it up (its bloody hard work doing that!!! ) so what's missing on mine or is it just the model you have (DSE)

There's no spring, just the ram. As the video shows it opens but the ram holds it up and you pull against the ram to open it fully but when you let go the ram pulls it back up. I remember playing with mine and the ram did seem to fit the wrong way round (in my thinking) but it worked. It sounds to me as if your ram is knackered.

Something knackered on a P38, there's a surprise!!

:D

I didnt mean it dropped open, I meant it literaly drops open to the floor or the passengers knee's. I didnt know the ram pulled it closed, I think I can vagueally see from the picture how its fixed. I think mines missing a mounting braket.

Mine does the same and when i took the glove box lid out the screrws have pulled out the cqage nut that hold the ram on.

Has anyone got a picture or drawing of how this ram fits. I can make a bracket no problem, but I cant see how it works the ram wont tilt down to fit on the lid as it seems to be in a recess, all I can think of is that there is a big chunk of over complicated plastic missing. Please help as I can find nothing on fleabay and no picture on Google, its driving me bats as its the only fault apart from a noisy drivers check strap, and Im a bit anal about stuff being right.

I think you have to remove the glove box and you will find a recess on the right hand side of it that the ram fits in and its a buggar of a job to do and its not untill then that you will know if the threads are still there

I repaired mine today, took about ten minutes once I found the glue. The bracket that holds the ram onto the box is fixed with 2 screws that screw into captive threaded Ferrells. The Ferrells had come out of their housings complete with screws. They need to be glued back, I used super glue. The ram cannot be attached until the glove box surround is unscrewed and allowed to drop forward. It's simply a matter of screwing the ram bracket back into position and then screwing back the surround.
