yes getting rid of my 1.8, getting a TD4 YAY.
its a 2001 5 door manual. first manual I've seen. test driven it once and was impressed with is peformance, seemed quicker than the 1.8.
BUT this is where I need some help. the gear leaver has a shudder when under accelaration. does not feel like a gearbox problem, seem like a mount. any ideas? anyone had this before?

Why the change Aussie? Will you be towing more with the Td4?

The driveshafts just have normal wear and tear by the sounds of it. Until you hear a clunking sound on taking up the drive or strange grinding noise they should be ok for a bit. Best get them sorted though

Northern Irelander...the shudder I get is extreme, quite smooth untill about 70 kmh then gets worse the faster I go. when I stop accelerating it goes away. are we sure its the driveshafts?. what else could it be?

Well if thats the only problem then thats great !!!! I would need at least
20Gb of space to the list the problems of this poxy Free(ha ha) Lander. I think I will just dive it of the cliffs into the sea.

Was happy until I had this problem, and then you take it to main dealers and they have no Idea what the problem is. So how is it ever going to get fixed. So far has cost me €1500 euros.

Have you had a simple wheel balance done, its easily overlooked.
To check the inner driveshaft joint, jack up front of car, Rotate the wheels back and forward, there should be excessive play between the hub of the shaft and the actual shaft itself (two will move independently if badly worn)

Will try and find pics of inner driveshaft bearing, they are in the gallery somewhere: Cant seem to move pics from gallery to this thread (on a public PC in the library, yes Im on my hols whoo hoo)

If you search for 'Inner driveshaft CV joint' in the gallery section it will show you a bearing.

They say its not a servicable item, but Im sure a good machine workshop could do something.

I think the inner bearing of the driveshaft and Propshaft are the same. Cats Eyes was the last person to suffer from Prop shaft CV problems. Hopefully she will salvage the parts when she repairs her hippo.

Will send her a PM

and can I ask you why the change?? of name?

Just thought I would keep up will my fellow Freelander friends:

My original members name was LR for LAND ROVER with 1796 being my engine capacity, bit bland.

So new name was very fitting for the Freelander section dont you think?

its not the driveshafts, it the F___ing IRD, getting a new one fitted tommorow A$1980 (806 pounds) for new IRD and about A$500 ( 200 pounds)to fit . these prices are through a mate who's a independant dealer. how do they compare to prices over there?
