Hello Folks.

I'm Marc, from Cornwall.

No nought about Land rovers, but can't wait to get my 1986 2.5 N/A Defender next week.

No doubt, I'll asking lots of dumb ass questions very soon !!!!

Thanks Folks for the welcome.

Can't wait to collect it now.

Catching the train to Abersoch on Friday, collect Saturday afternoon, and then my first drive in it will be 320miles over the Welsh hills back to Cornwall.

If you see someone looking bleary eyed on the M5 late Saturday... give me a beep:D.

your welcome to stop in bristol if yer tired and need a cuppa!

and its not a defender, at 1986 it will either be a 90 or 110. defenders were later ;)

welcome to the learning curve boyo!

Gofish, let me know if you find many greenlanes down your way, im down there quite alot as my girlfriends folks live in Bodmin and i spend alot of my summer spearfishing down that way.

90/110 is the length in inches of the chassis. early 90/110 had the 2.5 n/a and 2.5 turbo diesel engines along with the V8. later on (1989?) the developed the 200tdi engine which is much better than our normally aspirated diesels. they also toke the oppertunity to change the name to defender...

which you can get in 90 or 110".

im sure someone will clarify the date ;)

I'm Liskeard / Looe.
I used to have a N/A 90 too but couldn't put up with the lack of power and heavy steering.
Good luck with the drive back from Wales - are you in the AA/RAC? Do you know a good chiropractor?

dont put the boy off! i would get some cover before you embark on that kinda journey. a mate of mine broke down twice bringing his 110 back from scotland. once, engine electric in lancashire, twice, halfshaft 100yards from home near bath!

get some good seats and you wont need a chiro. also depends on how old you are... i have youth on my side ;) well i did, till i bought my landy!

Hay Griffdowg, I'll be searching for greenlanes next week;). I know a great spearfishing spot near me.. loads of spider crabs, and plenty sea bass too..and if the gates are open , a short sneaky drive in the landy down to the seas edge;)

Just how much ( rather lack off power) are we talking about:(?

I'm not too fussed about power steering, but I will be using the the 90 every day - driving 30/40 miles aday on the Cornish county lanes mostly.

Breakdown cover is sorted. :p

Cornwall to Abersoch is a mission. You would probably be better staying off motorways (unless you are in the AA/RAC), with an unfamiliar beastie. the roads from North/South wales arent good. My advice would be to keep as east as you can ie wrexham shrewsbury then the A49 south to monmouth and chepstow then over the bridge. I only know this because I live on Anglesey and it took me 6 hrs (in a 'normal' car) to get to Swansea! - 200 miles. I took a 'short cut' on the way home up the M4 - M50, M5, M6 A55 which was an hour quicker but 120 miles longer!
Anyways best of luck with the Landy, I just got a Discovery last week, 1996 TDi300 ES which I am very pleased with.
