Just out of interest, does anyone with a land rover such as a range rover classic (any with carpeted footwells) worry about getting stuff like mud, muddy water, etc in the footwells and having the carpets soak it all up and stinking the vehicle up for eternity? Wouldn't all that stinking water from mud bogging and water crossings ruin the carpets?

yup - and yu will find it corrodes the floorpan like acid :(.
best to remove completely, but dont be surprised with what yu find under it. Its not so much the carpets, but that ****ty black sponge underneath - it never dries out.

But don't you think putting metal footwells in a range rover would be stupid? Oh dear [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4trub1DVc0&feature=channel"]YouTube - 2010 Land Rover LR4 Off Road[/nomedia] 1:25 ; think of all that deep shag pile carpet soaking up the water...

I plan to remove the entire interior out of mine and remove as many external body panels as Possible, at some point this year. Weld all the holes and then coat everything in GRP resin. This shud prevent any further water ingress. Then dump the LR patented corrosion accelerator (aka Soundproofing.) And replace with stable matting which will be precision cut and all joints and entry points sealed with RTV silicone.

Pretty much the same here too, I'm gonna use rubber tanking compound though as it stays flexible. Dry out the mats and re-use, I'm putting floor mats on top to take the worst of the muck.

Thanks for that Redhand, had seen that mentioned on Expedition Portal a while ago, but wasn't sure if we had a different name for it.:5bhurray:

Local Farmers marts or equine supplies for the stable matting Ebay for the pu foam but be careful on Ebay because some of the sellers are charging 3 or 4 times more than others and it's all the same stuff.

ere red if thats the same stuff a friend of mine who owns some stables gave to me when i had me 90 so i could do the rear and the front wells

2 blokes struggled our arse of to pick up an 8x4 sheet that was about 50mm thick it weighs a fookin tonne.

a jigsaw with a laminate worktop blade was successfull for cutting it

No that must have been rubber sheeting. or summat else you can pick the foam stuff up no problem.

Just had a quick look on ebay sheet of the 12mm stuff weighs 3.75Kg or about 5lbs
