Only had the disco for a couple days and now having issues from time to time getting it out of park. Am I right thinking it has something to do with the ignition barrell as have some issues with this as well. And I know you need to be in park to release the key as I found that out the hard way.. Doh..... Also mine is a jap import if that makes any difference?

Take it back to where you got it from and demand they fix it or swap it for another, is what I'd do.

That's correct, Japanese autos have interlocks, you can't remove the key without being in Park as u say and with the engine running u can't move from Park without your foot on the brake pedal. You have similar on your transfer box.
Your problem could also be a stiff selector mechanism so something else to look at.

Interlock is an easy function to remove if giving problems, just cut the wires from the interlock micro switches and servos

I have similar interlock in my company car which is a Honda so being Japanese does makes a difference.

Brilliant, thank you for that, I think it's something to do with the relay somewhere near the steering colum. All seems to be ok now for some reason, when you push the release button on the gear leaver you can hear the relay clicking, so might take apart and have a little looksee..

Thank you for your help

Ain't it always the way .. I didn't know this was a 'feature' on them .. Good theft deterrent .. :)

I have figured it out now it's the brake switch that is faulty, problem is that there is a bit of rubber that is stuck on the end as for some reason the switch does not touch the arm. :(
