Getting a wire into cabin from engine bay

Before I start removing loads of trim, any suggestions as to best place to run wiring between engine bay and cabin?

Is there a convenient hole/grommet somewhere to poke through? No hole obvious without removing bits in engine bay. Not bothered which side! (

....(Haven't had so much trouble locating the correct hole since I was a teenager....)

feel free to ignore NoB, he's the village idiot

you might like to confirm what vehicle you require this info for, your signature mentions a defender yet you've posted in the Freelander section

if, hopefully, you do have a defender simply drop the fusebox cover off and poke your wire through the hole - following the numerous other wires - eventually you'll spot it within the engine bay - dropping the fusebox mounting screws off may help access

Sorry, need to update my signature. Its the good lady's Freelander 1.8S MY01.

Managed to push miles of spaghetti through bulk head in 110, Freelander another matter altogether....sound proofing, fire proofing, no rust....all new to me.

Either side has a grommet but they're pretty full up with wires already. I drilled through the side of the rubber grommet being careful not to touch the wires the other side then slipped the cable through the hole. The hole was tighter than the cable therefore no need for sealant etc.

I recently wired to secondary socket for towbar. The LR instructions were to loosen the fuse box on the RH of the engine and go through a grommet that is located lower down on the passenger side. If i remember rightly there is like a nipple on the grommet that you can cut off leaving a hole of about 2mm. I pushed a wire through then taped the wire on in the passenger compartment and pulled it back through. Its a tw_t of a job. Good luck.

Oooo, sounds like a plan, Tony.

Will whip the fuse box off tomorrow and have a look.

Can you remember where the exit from the grommet is in the passenger compartment? I presume behind the grab handle area, or does it appear in footwell?

best place is indeed under the fuse box, you'll be able to see the loom coming through dead easy. get a wire coat hanger, bend the very tip back on itself so its blunt, then wrap with some tape. then just make a small hole in the rubber and keep pushing it through, get your hand up the back of the glovebox and you should be in luck.

It comes out high up behind the glove box and right in the corner if i remember. I seem to remember as Optimus suggests you will need some kind of fishing equipment to pull it through (old wire coat hanger). I pushed plenty of wire in from the engine bay and then fished it with the coat (small hook bent on the end of wire). Watch the knuckles though!

Hi their, if you havent already fitted the wire their is an easier location, its on the drivers side (RHD) there is a rubber grommet with nothing going through it. just remove and poke a hole in it push your wire through and re-fit.
if you look in the engine bay drivers side start between the coolant bottle and the brake fluid resevoir and its about a foot down in the middle, easy to reach and comes through behind the pedels in the cabin.

I passed a wire on the right hand side using the grommet of the bonnet release cable. Made a small hole in it and passed the wire through there. (Is the white wire you can see disappear ....:D)
