gearbox

hi freelander people new owner .anyway bought 2.0ldiesel xedi runs great but bought with transmission trouble so converted to 2wdr to eliminate areas but still has bad grinding inall gears and chatters in neutral with clutch up and quiete when pressed i suspect input bearings any clues folks ,also are the 1.8 k gearbox and xedi gearb0x interchangeable?

It does sound likely to be a gearbox problem but the petrol and diesel PG1 gearboxes are different

Have the same problem here, I wondered whether it's worth trying to change the bearings but as a replacement gearbox is only ~£100 probably not worth it.

Problem with overhauling your own gearbox is you never know what you are going to find and the cost of a DIY repair can soon outstrip the cost of a good replacement box. High mileage boxes often need new syncro hubs and cones as well as bearings add to that new seals and gaskets and you're soon out of pocket and thats before you even start thinking about replacement gears.
