i have just sent a e-mail to ashcroft transmission here is what i wrote

I hope you can advise me, I have a 1999 TD5 Land Rover 2.5 D

When cold in reverse s i let the clutch up i get a noise, at first i thought it must be the release bearing but then , put the hand brake on and select 1st gear and do the same again i let the clutch slow but there is no noise , so i do it again in reverse and get the same sound a groaning as i let the clutch up. Can you shed any light on this and why it only does it in reverse? and why it only does it when its cold.

Many Thanks.

can anyone help??

Mine makes a slight groan when cold and in reverse -it always has. I think its probably the spigot bearing (I believe another common fault). Its never got worse in the last 4 years so I have never bothered to do anything about it.
