Thanks for that!
I'm not that knowsable about the RR as This is my first. I have owned many others, so understanding of varying degrees of of most issues.
I don't quite assertaine how the issue can resolve itself within 500 metres..
Don't quite understand the fish bit..
Cheers for now.

Right, not that I have the answer but, I have had or still have to a lesser degree the same thing. Mine started doing this after changing the gearbox oil (thought it would be a good idea at the time, not long had the car) first start of the day it would pick up reverse ok but not drive let it tick over for say 30 seconds then it would start to move, stop at the end of the street (50 yards) and pull away no problem so oil and filter change again (twice) still doing it now flick it into sport mode and do the first, second thing couple times seemed to make it pick up drive quicker. Now the @Bemble bit he mentioned a company doing recon valve blocks (valve bodies uk) had a word with them they came up with either still low on oil (more oil at £20 odd a litre !) or valve sticking so one recon valve block later its now a hell of a lot better first off like a second or two now and no sport mode rest of the day its fine, got to check the oil level again but the plug decided to round off no chance with one from Land Rover Phil gave me the BMW part number over on fullfat (thanks Phil) so one on its way from Poland of all places, sorry long post and I missed a few bits out to shorten it (still like this forum the best).

It was supposed to say "bigger fish to fry" but predictive bollocks setting on my phone decided"bugger fish" was a better word.
Normally there would have been a couple of innuendoes but.. sadly not..
So so disappointed..:p

Hi.
Thank you so very much to take the time to write all that information.
Really is very much appreciated.
What a great forum, so thanks to all involved with this
Cheers for now.

Good evening all,
Just to say I took the RR to work yesterday for a good run along the motorway.
On the way back, I stopped to refuel.
When I returned, I simply started it, engaged D and off I went.
So, the slighlty sticking unit would seem to be the culprit!
As I said, its not my everday car, but itx good to know its not the gearbox issue (touch wood!)
Thanks again for all the replies.
Cheers for now.

Did you try any of that Lucas transmission fix in there or does bemble advise against it in these boxes?

Well,didI jink myself?
On the way to work, all seems well.
I arrive at a junction, go to pull out, and nothing happens!
Try the manual selection, still nothing.
Last effort, turned it off and restarted, and all was well..
Until a 100 feet later, same issue. Same method to get going.
off again, then as the traffic stopped, it did it again.
I pulled off the main road and awaited tge Aa.
its now at z bmw/ rr specliast who reported they couldnt communicate with the gearbox...
:(:(
