gear stick snapped

i just broke down in my 200tdi the gear stick snapped just as it comes out of the selector . i managed to use a screwdriver to jam it in second gear to get home but can anyone give me an idea of what i need to change if i cant get it welded ? can the selector unit be changed from inside the car without dropping the gearbox and if so has anyone in south wales area got a selector for a 200tdi they want to sell ?

im desperate to get her fixed asap as i really am stuck with no car and i dont have family near me i can rely on for lifts

Has it snapped below where the main stick bolts onto the spline?

its snapped right as it comes out of the selector i will get some pics up on here later but at the moment ther eis no stick at all left coming out of the box just a round thing it snapped off which i can move with a mole grips or screwdriver

Oh fork! Can you put a sleeve on it and drop it on whats left from the box?

i just spoke to a mate now and he is going to have a go at welding it tomoro

its all fixed now , the springs that hold the shaft in place had rubbed right thro the shaft over the years and it caused it to snap

anyway heres the pics of the damage -
