yep tried everything but l must not b doing something right anyway will try again sometime . l actually live out in the sticks at preston so ir would b nice to know it is there and if its fitted l would like it to work, but being a ex mechanic l must b doing something wrong

I had this same problem when I first bought my p38. The previous owner had replaced the ash tray because he couldn't charge his phone in the cigar lighter and had managed to drop a very small screw down into the gear selector mechanism so when I tried to select low box I got all the BEEP BEEP BEEPS but the stick wouldn't go all the way across.

I used a very small magnet on a bit of thread to retrieve the screw and now works fine every time (touch wood)

just a though but if you've had it to bits (quite likely as its a P38 ;) maybe you've done the same worth a look??

hope it helps

Will

no ,only had the car two weeks there is no bleeping the low side of the gear change does not light up ots like your pushing against a brick wall very strange l would like it working we are going away with the acravan soon

Does the lever work properly on the high side? that is it wont move until you push the lever on the underside of the lever in? it'll move between D and 3 without pushing button in but you need to push button in to go to 2 and 1?

I know sounds silly, on my you need to press the button to drag it accross?

I regularly pull a 1.8tonne caravan
(Sometimes over fields too) and not needed low range.
In fact the only time I have used it was to pull a 30foot conifer out of the ground (which it did surprisingly easy)
Only problem I had was I used a 25foot rope

I find low range useful with trailers/caravan when reversing in confined spaces up banks etc:D

being a ex mechanic you would have thought i would have pulled it till it broke but it needed the touch of a woman in the morning im going to go outside and kick it (not the wife) the car for showing me up

Well if you'd read my post last week about lifting the plunger all the way you might have saved yourself the embarassment, oh and its covered on page 102 in the owners manual if you have one, there's a copy in RAVE if you dont have the hard copy.

When I buy something new my wife normally takes it off me and makes me read the manual, but being a ex mechanics(dangerous l know) but in this case l thought l knew back to ,the manual l think .
