hi all again rigth then today my auto gearbox started to play by flashing the manual and sport mode lights up on the dash , so after getting very pi**ed of with the car  i called the rac out to it . when he pluged his laptop in to the no fault code showed up , at 1st the car wood only go in 1st gear and no more . so he removed the battery for 5 mins then put it back on all working again ( strang he said ) so takeing the car for a drive he come back reverseing the car on the drive it all started again ???

so now the car picks up in all forward gears but when you put in reverse the lights come back up on the dash again ,

so the rac man left me saying its not as bad as it was but it needs sum one that know these to take a look .

as any one eles had this with there car and how was it fixed ????

AFAIK these recovery guys have just general scanners... IMO to make sure u must plug in a dedicated D2 tester setted on transmission before u go further with the diagnosis.

The two most common problems that cause this are:

1. The main car battery is about to die, so when you start the engine there are insufficient volts immediately to feed the transmission ecu so it throws a wobbly - cure is to put the car on charge overnight, then when you start the engine, do not touch the gearbox lever for 15-20secs. This allows the alternating to pump some juice back into the system before the transmission ecu needs to do anything.

You may find a replacement battery is the only answer if it's a lack of volts problem.

2. A faulty or mis-aligned gearbox switch. Cure - re-align and/or replace.

funny you say that big lad battery went flat 2 days later when it happned to me:eek:

thinking about it when i was changing the sunroof motor the other day the battery whent flat then, but after a jump start its bin great for 3/4 days ,

but the lights are only coming on now when you put in to reverse gear then after that if you turn the car off and back on all is great again .

but i will put the battery on charge over night

I'd get it checked with a proper scanner also make sure battery is fully. Charged turn check xy switch there aren't that bad to change and cost £160 new just pm me
