Hi guys I've just changed the transfer box cover seal and refilled with oil on my 1983 swb series 3 2.25 deisel and then went on to do the gear oil. As i removed the drain plug 4 thin strips of metal fell out it looks like they have snapped in half, 2 of which have a slight shiny groove in them .Am i right in thinking that this is the clutch detent spring and if so how important is this Would appreciate and feedback or help as im just about to mot it after part restoration Many thanks dom.

there isnt such a thing as that and clutch housing is totally seperate from gear box oil picture would help ,but most likely 3rd 4th synchro springs, whats a transfer box cover seal?

transfer box cover seal is the rectangular cork one. did look at my haynes manual and it looks like the item 35 (clutch detent spring)

do you mean 3rd 4th synchro hub spring ,there are three of then single flat leaf spring about 30mm x 6 mm,if it is you will need to remove gear box to replace rtc1956

Spring

yes thats definately them, when boxes is out and bell housing off not forgetting layshaft bolt 5/8 or 16mm socket and is easier if the 3 bell houslng bolts are knocked out, remove gear box top put it into 3rd gear if possible then remove selector shaft and fork hub can then be removed its recessed in splines one end this must go back towards 3rd gear as recess accounts for snap ring holding 3rd gear on,springs are relaceable rtc1956

yes full nane is 3rd 4th synchroniser hub they are definately from there its quite common didnt you notice poor gear selection (jamming)

All ordered. Didnt notice any thing but then im only moving it around the drive and garage so havent been on the road yet

Check your synchronising clutch (as haynes describes it) mine was quite worn on the grooves, and got a genuine one for about £30 i think from PA blanchard
