Gear box differences

Hi

I have imported 3 ex army landrovers and each gear box works very differently. One goes smooth as silk, another one the high/low gear jumps out. another one is not finding the 5th gear.

my question.
After an overhaul of the gear box could you say the gear box will go like silk or is that a luck kind of thing?

I wouldn't say silk not unless its fitted with all new parts and rebuilt to spec. Many are not and many refurbished ones use original parts that seem ok at time of recondiioning.

Jumping out of high low? could be an easy installation/setup problem tho. Make sure it has the plastic washers installed on all pivot points. Also check that the weld has not cracked on the end of the selector as I have had this. Another one is the sill cast adjuster that is at 45 degrees connects the leaver to the selector this cracks and or falls apart. Once you are certain that all the above is correct and only then it needs to be setup to get enough throw following the setup procedure. if somting like a plastic washer or any of the above you are ****ing in the wind TBH!
