Gaylander trying to accelerate when foot off the pedal

My 12 year old L series diesel Freelander has started doing 1200 rpm when my foot is nowhere near the pedal. Commonly only when warm.

Any ideas, please? Its an intermittent fault.

Any possibility it could be related to an oil leak from the IRD? (can't see how, but thought I would ask)

Maybe an air hose leak maybe, of vaccume leak.

Could be oil getting into the intake?

It could have Toyota syndrome

Thanks, jedi. Do I get it compression tested then? If oil is getting in would I be losing a lot of oil?
