Hay all

I was hopeing for info and to let me know if i am getting my leg pulled?

1.Bio Diesel WOT IS IT & how much more cheeper is it to regular Diesel????

2.I have been told that we can run our Diesel engines on cooking oil? Am i getting the **** taken out of me and if i am then HA BLOODY HA and if not is there people hear useing it?

Bio diesel is veg oil run through the transesterification process, and veg oil is as its name suggest veg oil!

They will run on both, although I wouldn't run my engines on veg oil.

As far as I know Biodiesel as sold on the forcourt is a proportion of vegetable oil about 20% mixed with mineral oil Diesel. Not all engines are compatible because the Bio does'nt have the cooling effect on the valve seats.

Bio diesel is veg oil, that has been chemicaly changed into bio diesel, as such, when blended with DERV, it is no longer bio diesel, although commonly still called bio diesel.

Bio diesel, is a fuel in its own right, Bio Blend, is when its blended with diesel, Rix garages sell a bioblend which is 5%

ALL diesel from grangemouth; and no doubt there other refinarys, has about 3-5% bio diesel in it anyway.

I tried it in my road car Renault Vel Satis 3.0L V6 Diesel, it ran like a dog, no power, smoke, the lot. I now stick to BP Ultimate Diesel. Daren't try it in the landy with the amount of smoke it chucks out anyway and it's lack of go, I'd never move.

you tried what?

my 200 tdi runs ok with 50/50 mix derv/svo.
(in the summer).

Don't know exactly what it was but was sold as Biodiesel at the filling station. not sure if it was a mix or pure veggie.

I have found in 3 landrovers now, that DERV doesn't make them go as well as bio does, its like an addiction... you come off the stuff and you shout "go" a helluva lot.

Bio diesel has a higher cetane rating than DERV so it does have more calories per pound of fuel, however, this can lead to incomplete combustion if the timing is not bang on, and lack of go.

I have heard some people say they would never touch bio again after trying it, its intresting, it could be an indication the timing is off.

Maybe I'll give it a go after what you guys have said in my Series III at least it isn't the price of BP Ultimate Diesel that I use in my Renault.

There's a man with a healthy bank balance. I thought you owned a landrover? mine was healthy too before I got one.

Just put my last 20litres in the tank there, better go off to the wee lady who sells it and get another drum full.

bio on forecourts is a small mix of bio in derve like 5 percent but retails round here in the north west for about 79.9 per litre.
good point that was mentioned about the timing of the engine by using bio!
