Hi, my discovery 1 300 tdi will not run unless the tank is completely full and then it frequently stops. I have cleaned the sedimenter, replaced the lift pump and fuel filter and checked the banjo bolts to the fuel filter for leaks and / or blockages. Does anybody have any ideas to what else it could be before I try to gain access and then check / replace the sender unit?

Thanks for quick reply, thought it would be, now have to try and remove old bolts on floor panel, oh well there goes the weekend.

Hi, Still having problems, have replaced sender unit, drained and cleaned fuel tank, cleaned plastic pot under sender unit inside tank, cleaned sedimenter, replaced lift pump, replaced fuel filter, replaced banjo bolts and crush washers on fuel filter housing, ran airline through all fuel pipes, refilled tank to 3/4 full. Will drive ok for approx 10 miles then stop as if run out of fuel. The fuel filter then will be empty and the only way to move is by constantly removing and filling the fuel filter by hand. Am only able to move about 300 yards each time from this point. Wondering if blocked breather pipe will cause these symptoms by creating a vacuum in the tank. Has anybody else had this problem?

shouldnt think so but remove filler cap to prove id fit clear plastic pipe between filter and front banjo bolt on injection pump have you got pipes wrong on lift pump ,pump poor? leak in sedimentor or pipe etc

BYpass the ****ty sedimenter ! Mine did exactly as yours does. Look for diesel leak round the sedimenter housing. Bypass it with some fuel line sleeved onto old from sender. Then throw the sedimenter as far as you can into your neighbours gardens ! :D

Hi, bypassed the sedimenter today and fitted a clear pipe from lift pump. Starts ok then a steadily increasing amount of bubbles start to form until engine stops.
Thought of tapping tank from nearer the bottom and using a facet pump to supply direct to the filter.

where do the buubles come from Tank? Filter? Lift Pump etc

Your sucking air into the fuel system from somewhere.

Use that clear piece of pipe to find out where.

Tank to next joint...

work your way along the system 'til you find it.

Don't forget the return line as well.
