Got the TD5 tank into the rear of my 90 today :D got it to pump and everything :D

Only problem is the sender is not registering anything :( So is it as simple as 1 wire to gauge other to earth, then on the gauge the one is a live feed? I have replicated the wire placement of that on my existing gauge and used a "quick connect" thingy to take the + feed. maybe it didnt splice properly?

can anyone else thing of anything I did wrong? Not had a great fiddle. worn out from lifting tank, cradle and tank guard all in place at the same time!

Cheers,

G

These might help. Looks like the fuel sender is wired as you expected.
I'm not 100% sure though.

bollix. Sorry shifty should have said. the sender is an earlier (late 300tdi) unit not the TD5 sender/ HP pump. It will have the same connection as a standard sender. The PO siliconed ontop of the wires to prevent moisture ingress so i assumed he wired it correctly. Have dropped him a mail, but as i said, i cant see where I have gone wrong really. must be something loose or maybe a duff gauge. trial and error tomorrow night I reckon.

Cheers,

G

well I trial and errored the gauge tonight. Its reading, but the gauge goes to full when I know there is only about 5 litres in it :( any thoughts anyone? running the sender to the original gauge shows its fine but running the original sender to the new gauge it goes off the scale again.

is there much to go wrong with the actual gauge itself?

any thoughts appreciated. damn thing

ITs the standard defender gauge. its the same as original. I think, from reading about that if the gauge swings all the way to the right. its earthed ok and its getting the live feed but the sender wire is not transmitting signal (resistance). so maybe i have a fault at the tank end. Will have to give it a wiggle and see what happens :( another day another dollar!
