Hi all I have a rough running Td5 1999 .It all started this morning with a miss that got worse till eventually she cut out on me 10 mins into my journey. Finally managed to get her started again with the use of a long hill and limped home with very little power  .Got home turned the engine off and turned the key on to position 2 and the fuel pump is silent but she still starts no probs  fuel relay under the bonnet is clicking on and off and getting 5.0 v at the pump. I have the pump out, is there any way of testing it outside the tank or is it just goosed. The gauze is fine in the body of the pump and the loom is fine no oil either.
Cheers Davy

the only certain way to check if the pump delivers is to put a gauge instead of the fuel temp sensor in the FPR or on the RH side inner filter connection...if you have 4 bar there the pump is good and there's some other problem....if not then 99% the pump is gone... cos there is 1% chance that the fuel line is clogged

Same issues a while ago, changed the diaphragm in the FPR and now better, not great, but better. No leaks but after several hours standing it's obvious that the pressure has dropped as it takes a few seconds for full power to be delivered. The other possibility is injector seals, rough running but can start on the button or not start at all.

hi guys thanks for the replies.Good shout on the gauge Sierra where would I get one ? is it a landrover part or the local central heating supplier.Thebiglad I will order a new pump and see how I get on.Chrimcme didn't think about the fpr as its bone dry under there. As for injector seals it does sound lumpy hopefully the new pump will cure it as thats one nightmare I dont want lol.I will also order a new diaphragm for the fpr as the power has been down.
Cheers Davy

any 5 bar hydraulic gauge will do it...you just have to improvise as to be able to screw in it's hose in the FPR or connect it to the return fuel line to measure the pressure in the fuel rail... see the attachments and you'll understand what you have to check

Hi Davy, lumpy and down on power are classic symptoms of a foobar'd pump.

Dave

Hi Sierra thought that about the pressure gauge.I will pick one up and throw it into the tool box as its the kinda thing thats handy to have around :).
Thebiglad Dave,I couldnt work out why the engine was still running, pump must have been just running and no more lol the new pump is on its way and possibly a new fpr. Thanks for the replies gonny go an play with my disco now  cheers davy

Ok new fuel pump fitted and did the fuel filter at the same time :D. Went for the grand ignition switch on and nowt :faint2::faint2::faint2: Got the computer out and did a search on here. Found out fuse number F10 under the bonnet 30 amp job had blown must have went when the pump chucked it new fuse in and she gurgled away good style.
Just like to say thanks for the wise words from the guys on here. Its good to know that the backup is there when you need it.Thanks again :tea: Davy

Gawd Davy that must have been a bit of a shaker 'til you found the fuse.

It's brilliant when you fix things isn't it?

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave I was real pleased lol went for the big switch on and nowt nearly fainted then mild panic set in.I had visions of having to tear her apart to get to obscure black boxes hidden behind trim that never goes back the same way lol. All sorts went thru my head but all is well now.Did the once over bit as well what a difference a new pump, new fuel filter and fixed waste gate make.I'm now on the prowl for nooby saxos to smoke
