Got a Landy Disco 300 TDI and its VERY under powered. I've changed and cleaned the fuel filters and water trap.
Just wondering how to turn the Timing up on the fuel pump I believe its running very under powered as there is NO smoke coming out the exhaust what so ever I see more smoke coming out of a push bike

Regards, Rob.

Before you go too far down the fuelling route are you sure everything else is performing correctly?

Are you sure your performance expectations are realistic? 2100kgs, 111bhp - not a Ferrari formula??

Both our Discos go really well, for what they are, without any smoke at all even on full throttle going up hills.

Yup fairly gutless until they reach 2000rpm, the pump wont turn like some since the holes are not elongated, so fuel timing is a cover off job.

It wont get above 50 :).

Perhaps the engine is fooked, low on compression, injectors fooked although usually smoke, valve clearances too tight, belt timing wrong, burnt valves, pump fooked, lift pump fooked and its a common fault so try that first, crank the engine with the outlet off and see what it supplies.

Unlikely to be just the fuel pump timing.

As David said, try the lift pump first, make sure it's getting fuel, but also check the air/turbo hoses etc. The hoses to the turbo are prone to de-laminate and can collapse, ball up, and block a large quantity of the air that's supposed to flow freely ... ;)

Why would the timing suddenly have changed, I think you should start looking for faults, or something (maintenance wise) that has not been done. How many miles has it done? Have you checked the intercooler/hoses and manifold is not full of gunge. Is the air filter clean?

When something like this happens I would not start fooling with timing - something is wrong.

Mine was almost the same when I got it (60-65mph) and after removing the air filter cover found that I couldn't see the element till I had scraped about an inch of hay fluff, grass and fethers off the top of it. By water trap do you mean the one on the rear drivers side of the chassis or the one on the bottom of the fuel filter on the bulk head? I changed the bulk head fuel filter and cleaned the sedimentor (rear of chassis) out. Blanked the egr valve that could in your case be jammed open and replaced the down pipe for a deeepender 90 de cat (particulate filter). After all this it was improved slightly at which point I started on the injection pump but as people have said "Do the basics first" I still thought that mine felt a bit slow but when driving in convoy on proper (boring) roads between lanes a few weeks ago I noticed I was having to ease off up hill as I was catching up with the bloke infront. Result :) And yes he did have it floored cos I asked him later :) :) :)

I had same problem if you search forums for pump adjustment (easy to do ) there is a couple of good articles telling how to get a bit more all the pumps are set the same at the factory and this is not always right for the engine as they are all a tad different. the other things to do are decat exhaust lose the middle box, bin the egr valve, wash out the intercooler (leave soak overnight with petrol then turn the hose on in it for a bit and watch the problem flush out) I have done all this to mine and it is a complete transformation and I actualy like driving it now and it goes like stink. don't forget the obvious filters etc.
