Guys, just fitted a new fuel pump to my 1983 rangie 3.5v8 on carbs. Its the facet type bolted to the rear outrigger on the passenger side. Trouble is its ticking away but not pumping fuel to the carbs. I assume I need to prime it but cant work out how. Can some one give me some tips please. tried a search but no good.

should not need priming..but if it does pour some fuel into inlet..?

you fitted correctly??and checked fuel filter is clean etc..

no one answered cos nothing to get wrong really..

Sometimes happens if your low on fuel. Stick a rag in the filler with a tube through it and blow to shove some fuel up the pipe. If you have big lungs it may work. I usually used a gentle puff with an air line. You may have a split in the pickup pipe?

It might sound stupid but check the wires are the right way around. I saw something similar a while back on an efi Rangie, pump would run but no fuel; turned out replacement fuel pump was wired the wrong way around so it was trying to suck the fuel back in to the tank! Swapped feed and ground over and all was good.

On a rotary pump maybe, but not on the reciprocating diaphragm pump. Pipes could be on wrong way round though.

yes pipe on wrong or blockage.

you didnt re locate it to higher up did you as they can only lift to a certain height

if its ****part it might just not work even if new
