Dear Range Rover enthusiasts,

I finally got my high pressure fuel pump delivered, this weekend I plan to change my old faulty HPFP.

I already managed to change the in tank low pressure fuel pump thus i assume it should be a "relatively" easy job to change the big heavy pump behind the air filter and next to the fuel filter.

Is there anything I have to be aware of besides tightening the srews with the appropriate newton meter and connecting the connectors and fuellines correctly? As I know the gearwheel of the pump does not have to be in a special position, basically it is just "plug and play". Please correct me if I am wrong.

Would be thankful for any tips and hints.

Best regards
Steven

Logically it's just a pump and the parameters are stored into the ecu and having the torque specs would be useful 🤔
I would have had the old one tested to rule it out and stop the parts cannon going off first.

Dear Piercy,

we already ruled out, it is def. the HPFP. When the motor is cranking but does not run (when engine warm) we spray ice spray directly to the HPFP and instantly the pump starts working. We tested this method three times and each time when the motor is in operating temperature it won´t start. We spray ice spray on the pump to cool down the pump housing and then the pump starts again. Strange behaviou most likely there is air within the old pump thus it can not be generated enough pressure within the pump. Just to mention that I already changed the in tank fule pump fuel filter. Now -accoring to me- everything indicates that the HPFP is faulty.

Hope that solves the agony.

Best regards
Steven

Hi, when taking out the hpfp- I have taken of the cover to access the 21mm bolt inside to then be able to lock the special tool in. Is it ok for the outer belt to be moving when loosening this inner bolt off? I'm assume it's the timing chain that the tool is going to lock and not the outer fan belt? I marked the fan belt with tippex just for peace of mind and can see it move backwards when trying to loosen off this inner bolt.
Many thanks
Lee
