hi,

i have got an 2 1/4 petrol 79 88" sIII, when i bought her there was no low fuel warning lamp in the dash, presuming it had just fallen through the back, i thought nothing of it until i went to fix it to find nothing behind the dash resembling my dissapearing lamp,
after getting a new lamp/lampholder i checked behind the dash of my friends 72 SIII to see which wires should be attached white and white/green. airing on the side of caution i checked some original landrover maintenance books to find no mention of this warning lamp in the circuit diags??? it is however present on the 2 1/4 diesel diags.

my question is, are the fuel sender units the same for diesel/petrol (i can see no reason why they wouldnt be) and if so can i therefore just run a cable from the sender to my new lamp?

if the senders are different can i fit the diesel sender unit to mine in order to get my low fuel warning lamp?

thanks in advance

If the sender unit is as bad as the ones on the 90s I wouldn't bother the darned thing flashes on and off if your tank is anything below half full and is so irritating that I took the bulb out of mine. Damnably annoying as I spent best part of a weekend sorting the electrics out to get it to light up.

cheers for that, i did notice when i borrowed my mates sIII that his fuel level warning lamp seemed to resemble some crap 80's disco light! i checked those manuals from a previous thread, they are the ones that doesnt show a low fuel level warning lamp for the petrol variants?? i will have to go and look in the Haynes and compare the sender from another series III

regards

Andyd
