Fuel guage fault when I turn the engine on.

As above really, the guage seems to be drawn to the left when the engine is running, regardless of how much fuel is in the tank.

It seems worse when the engine is cold.

Also when I accelerate it seems to get worse more quickly too.

Anyone got any ideas, it's really baffling me.

Short at the binacle maybe?? Sounds like linked to rev counter maybe??
