Front wheel bearing advice ?

Right peeps

Just had the Landy (300 tdi) moted .. Picked up front left wheel had play in it etc drives wheel ok ! Anyway I got a 52mm socket tighend it up the the point it won't turn anymore . There is still play in the wheel if you move it up and Down with you hands in the 12-6 position . But while I put pressure on the tyre at 12 o'clock it leaks oil from the swivel ball?? Do I just need to replace the wheel bearing in the hub ??

sounds like swivel bearings are loose,may be adjusted but most likely need changing,wheel bearing inner nut should only be tightened enough just to remove free play no more

Ummmm that's what I was thinking how do I go about changeing the swivel bearings ?

strip wheel station ,tie caliper out the way after removing top pin bolts , leave lower pin in housing it doesnt need to come out to strip and change bearings,bearings are 606666g

Sorry mate not clear on the above .. Do I need to take the hub off and strip it right down or just take the top pins out with to bolts and swap them out ?

yes as you will need to remove everything but the chrome ball to fit bearing races

Right ok I get ya ... On a cheaper note can a remove a shim or 2 at the top pin as a short term thing ?

You can certainly try that if there are enough shims?

But really, its not a difficult job so you might as well do it properly.
