P38A Front swivel - by eye or by special tool alignment poll

Got an advisory on my MOT that mine were worn. Another for my to-do list. Must admit I was a tad apprehensive approaching it without the tool.

I have a press (one of the eBay ball joint kits) with the required adapters to do the P38 ball joints. I don't think you're a million miles from me (when I'm home!), so if you want to borrow the press when I get back from my travels at the end of June, then you're welcome to - also happy to give a hand to change them if you want.

I may nip down to see my sister in Purton Stoke, and bring some ball joints with me. hint hint.:D:D:D

I shall be along for this too... We could make a day of it, and enjoy the swearing together.

I'd be up for that, I should have some workshop space again by the time I get back from work at the end of June. I am already organising a 'P38 Summer Camp' as it has been nicknamed, where a few other owners are looking at coming down for a weekend and then having some time at the workshop to get a whole load of things done on all of our vehicles in a couple of days.

I'm not sure how many we were going to have turning up, but I'll check with the others, and see if we reckon we could fit a couple of ball joint changes in aswell... failing that, or if you aren't about that weekend (still firm dates TBC) then if there are some people that are interested in that kind of thing, then can look at doing another day or 2 for some more bits over the summer.

Many hands make light work as they say, and it's almost easier if you are doing a couple at a time!

I'll drop you both a PM when I've messaged the other guys who are already coming along and hopefully we can fit a couple more people in... the more the merrier I say, but I probably can't take over the whole yard space up there with P38s... though it would be an awesome group photo!

Very tempting. yes, not far, an hour or so.

Be careful, you'll have BB kicking you off for hijacking the great Landyzone gathering.

I've had a chat with the other guys who are coming down to do a few bits on their P38's over the weekend at the start of July, and we all reckon we should be able to fit a couple of others in. Many hands make light work aswell, so a couple of Ball Joint swaps should be possible.

If anyone is definitely interested, then drop me a PM and I can give you more details.

Marty

Thanks, Marty. I'd definitely be up for a day of tinkering, or a weekend or whatever.

We are looking at doing a weekend - 2nd/3rd July. Have a couple of people coming from down devon/cornwall/poole way, maybe one from Yorkshire, one from Peterborough, and one from a bit further up on the East coast. Not everyone has a list of things they want to do (I do, which is how it started!) but we were just chatting about it on another forum and figured that a weekend would be best, and we could then just meet up and have a very informal couple of days trying to get a load of bits done, and a bit of a put names to faces etc. I think everyone who's coming from out of town was looking at finding a cheap B&B or something near where the workshop is. But if you are only an hour away then it might be easy to commute!

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread. Did you ever post dimensions to make this tool please? I'd love to make one at work as i've recently had hub alignment issues.
Many thanks

Pretty sure @wammers put a diagram up somewhere on a thread some time ago.

Also, @EntropyUK made something up from some plastic pipe and a bearing that does the same job.
