Front Pad's and Disc's

Hi All... bit of help needed until my Haynes manual arrives!!
My 55 plate TD4 is due up for it's MOT soon... I've got the front end brake noise as you get when the pad's are thin so checked them tonight... The pad's for sure are 3mm in places... but also the discs are very bad.. 18mm in the ctr but 16mm towards the outside egde. Assume they need replacing... But how do you get them off... and is there any setting up of the new disc / bearing required??... Thanks

Wheels off then there will be two philips screws holding disk brake assembly to hub. OOPs first undo lower caliper bolt so you can slide it up and away from disk. Get old bit of wire to suspend calipers from suspension to save straining the brake pipes. Clean new disks in cleaner if you need to to remove transit coating which prevents corrosion. Copper grease on back of pads reduces chatter. Make sure brake resevoir under bonnet open since you will need to push piston back to accomodate thicker pads. As to other bits run out can be checked but if you give the seating surface on the hub a wire brushing to remove surface scale you should not be far off. Would have to say its an easy job but if you are unsure get it done for you as brakes are a touch serious.

Ooops... Didn't see the two screws... they are under the copper grease... thought they were like the old Mini type hubs that house the bearings also... so yes.. a very easy job then.... will have them done before 10 if I can get the bit's... Worth asking you see... Any make of part recomended? for disc and pads??.. cheers....

Greenstuff are good parts to fit.

Probably too late now but I highly recommend you slacken the caliper bleed screw when reseting the piston as the ABS modulator can feck up if old/dirty fluid is forced back into it.

Yep.. too late.. but no problem to report... Was talked into some 'cheaper' parts by the local Landy garage... not sure if they are any good... but he uses them all the time and has had no bad reports (He did actualy say no one has ever come back to say they are faulty??)... Anyway The pads are AB Tex and the discs LPB...
Any thoughts??

That's all that matters....... an added risk though so worth remembering next time.

As far as pads go i'm not fussy, I fit any make usually Unipart, not being one to rush about i'm not arsed about upgrades.

I allways use Unipart give good service and cheap as ought

the only problem is uni-part stuff is whatever they get the cheapest, sometimes its good stuff others it can be very dubious!
