Hi!

Some swine nicked one of the fog light bezels off the front of my disco.
I have a pretty shrewd idea who it was but no way of proving it.

Anyway, I bought a new one and painted it up and then went out to put it in.
I realise I probably didn't prepre for this job very well

So when I offered it up I realised that the little plastic bits that fit through all the holes in the bumper need to be melted back to hold the bezel in place

At least I now know that the bezel did not fall out easily - someone was involved

I don't really want to shell out for an expensive tool just for this one-off job.

Is there a special technique for melting this plastic bits and fixing the bezel in place?

Cheers

A lighter? or one of those little butane pencil blowtorches? And then something to then press the melted bits over, like a screwdriver, or a spanner?

Have a go... but using heat on GRP or hard plastic will burn the area and make it brittle, in manufacture the plastic is 'welded' by ultrasonic. I suggest that you use one of the special glues that is made for fixing or repair of this type of hard plastic.

You could always pop into a body repair shop and see what they use.

Thanks all!

Yes, I was expecting a clip but looking at the other side its melted into place.

So, a soldering iron it will be - though its nice to have an excuse to buy a small butane torch - I'm sure I'll need it again some time ;-)

Access is a bit of a pain to the back of the bezel when its in place so I might glue the top and 'weld' the bottom.

Cheers!
